Primary - Curriculum

The Primary Education module is designed to follow the axiom Discovering the syllabus is more important than covering it. We believe that the student should have mental access to assimilation along with physical access to learning. In accordance, the working schedules of classes I and II have been designed in such a way that they have short respite periods after every 45 minutes of learning. This helps them to come back ready and refreshed for the next session of classroom learning. Every day there is his/her thoughts on any topic through stories, anecdotes, etc.

 

SUBJECTS

To enable the students to acquire academic excellence, emotional development, and sensory experience various subjects are incorporated into the curriculum. The subject content is integrated into the framework and context of students’ lives so that the school education becomes more meaningful and relevant in today’s life.

Education is knowledge imbued with wisdom and ethics which mound the behavior and personality of the students. The focus on value education remains strong in MOON LIGHT PUBLIC SCHOOL, SISIAULI. The students imbibe the essential qualities of honesty, fair play, empathy, courage, integrity, compassion, loyalty, and courtesy through morning assemblies, the celebration of festivals, and day-to-day interaction with the teachers. The effort is to guide the students towards appropriate behavior and the development of a strong character.

A continuous assessment scheme is followed and no formal examination is held. The student is graded regularly and evaluation is based on:

TEACHING-LEARNING STRATEGIES

  • The school relentlessly strives to uncover the hidden potential in every student and enhances his capabilities by providing opportunities by way of myriad activities and healthy competition on cultural, literary and sports front.
  • To facilitate better learning through hands-on experience, fully equipped Mathematics, Science and Computer Science labs are provided.
  • The child-centric approach emphasizes on discovery method, group learning, project work, experiments, role plays, etc.
  • Audio-visual aids are used regularly, assisting the students to understand the nuances of a lesson through fun-filled interactive and play way methods.

 

EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT

Exams are a built-in tool to test the knowledge assimilated by a child. While examining a question paper, the following criteria are considered: Understanding, Knowledge, and Application. A continuous comprehensive evaluation is done in classes VI to VIII.

CO-SCHOLASTIC AREAS:

 

It is a well-known fact that only a healthy child can learn effectively and good health status leads to better learning. Many other activities are necessary for the development of the affective and psychomotor domain. Those activities like games and sport, art and music, craftwork, etc. are termed as co-scholastic activities. Instead of co-curricular activities, the term co-scholastic activities are used as both cognitive and non-cognitive development can take place by exposing the child to the lesson on scholastic subjects and non-scholastic subjects. General Studies, Health and Physical Education, Yoga, Traditional Games, Indigenous Sports, Martial Arts, etc. is an integral part of the curriculum and is in the routine of the school for the holistic development of children.

  • Nurture life skills by prescribing curricular and co-curricular activities to help improve self-esteem, empathy towards others and different cultures, etc.

  • TEACHING LEARNING STRATEGIES

METHODS

Teachers are using a wide range of methods to promote interaction during regular class periods. These methods include traditional textbook methods supplemented by discussions and practical work. Experimentation and lecture methods are mainly adopted for teaching General Science. Social Science periods are made interesting by making use of project work and frequent use of a timeline to correlate events. Language periods are blended with group discussions, etc.

  • ACTIVITY-BASED LEARNING

 To facilitate learning, Science and Social Science workshops, activities in Debate Club and house quizzes are organized.

SKILLS

This includes holistic development of the students such as mental, physical, emotional and psychic, and spiritual, as also developing scientific temperament amongst studies, etc.

VALUE-BASED EDUCATION

Every institution has an ideology which is the building block of its system. The motto of MOON LIGHT PUBLIC SCHOOL, SISIAULI (part of the MOON LIGHT TECHNICAL Education Society) is ‘Soaring High is My Nature which means every student aims to become:

EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT

  • The CBSE guidelines are adhered to in classes IX, X, XI and XII.
  • As and when changes notified by CBSE, are carried out.
  • In Class IX, only grades are given as per board.
  • Class XI students are given both marks and grades.
  • For final promotion in Class IX, 50% weightage of First Term and 50% weightage of Second Term are taken into account.
  • For final promotion, Class XI – 40% weightage of First Term and 60% weightage of Second Term are taken into account.
